• Info: Michelle Tumes stammt ursprünglich aus Australien; startete aber ihre Musikkarriere in den USA. Ihr Debütalbum von 1998, "listen" schlug in die Szene förmlich wie eine Bombe ein. Durch den prägnanten Klassik-Pop, von Charlie Peacock produziert, gewann sie innerhalb kurzer Zeit zahlreiche Fans - auch in Deutschland. Auf ihren späteren Alben entwickelte sie sich von diesem "Soft-Image" immer weiter weg und wollte unbedingt eine anerkannte Pop-Rock-Künstlerin werden bzw. sein. Ihre Mainstream-Single "do ya" steht symptomatisch dafür. — Leider stand sie zwischen 2003 und 2006 ohne Label da; manche dachten plötzlich, sie wäre "weg vom Fenster". Lediglich ihr Mitwirken bei einem Worship-Projekt zusammen mit Susan Ashton und Christine Dente ("kisses from heaven - streams of worship", 2005) war ein erstes kleines Lebenszeichen von ihr nach langer Zeit. Ein Jahr später stellte sie dann ihr viertes und selbstbetiteltes Studioalbum vor, welches sie im Alleingang mit ihrem Ehemann einspielte und dabei die volle künstlerische Kontrolle behielt. • artist info: Singer/songwriter Michelle Tumes was born in Adelaide, Australia, and began studying piano at the age of four. While in her teens, she enrolled in a two-year classical piano program, an experience which left her so disillusioned about performing that she instead turned to studying dentistry. At that point, her little sister gave Tumes $40 she had saved from her paper route in order to convince her older sibling to cut a demo; she agreed, sending the tape unsolicited to a variety of publishing companies. Offers quickly poured in, and after signing a songwriting deal with an Australian publisher she relocated to the U.S., soon authoring Jaci Velasquez's CCM chart-topper "If This World." Tumes' attempts to mount a solo career initially met with frustration, but she eventually signed with the Sparrow, issuing her debut LP Listen in 1998 and earning a major hit with the single "Please Come Back." Center of My Universe followed in early 2000 featuring the mainstream hit single "Do Ya." Afther her third release with "Dream" in 2001 she lost her contract with Sparrow/EMI and was an independent artist. The release of her self-titled fourth album in 2006 marked her comeback to the global music scence this time as a self-produced independent artist with small label/independent distribution.
